Course Overview

This class provides a high level overview of Globus. It is the recommended tool for transferring large quantities of data such as next generation sequences (NGS) to and from Biowulf (the NIH High Performance Computing System). Participants learn about the Globus Desktop Client, how to set up data transfer end points, and see an example of NGS data transfer from the NCI CCR Sequencing Facility to Biowulf. This class is a demonstration and not hands-on. It is open only to NIH staff. The target audience is those who have not used or need a refresher on Globus.

Learning Objectives

After this class participants will:

  • Be able to describe and know the advantages of using Globus.
  • Become familiar with the steps involved in data transfer using Globus, including:
    • How to access the Globus desktop client.
    • Setting up data transfer endpoints and subsequently transferring data to Biowulf.
