Workshop Overview
Description
In this 2-day workshop, you will learn about various ways to study the microbiome including important concepts and best practices in microbial community analysis. You will also gain hands-on experience setting up and running a shotgun metagenomics pipeline using Nephele, NIAID’s free application for microbiome analysis, and will explore key outputs for downstream analysis.
Day 1: The Basics of Microbiome Analysis (8/12/2025)
• Learn about various omics approaches to studying the microbiome and key concepts.
• Understand best practices, available resources, and bioinformatic considerations for microbial community analysis.
Day 2: Shotgun Metagenomics with Nephele (8/14/2025)
• Gain hands-on experience running a shotgun metagenomics pipeline using Nephele.
Prerequisites
This workshop is intended for a beginner audience. No prior knowledge is required. Attendees will need to register for a Nephele account at https://nephele.niaid.nih.gov. See How to register for Nephele for further instructions.
