Unix Quiz 1

Hi, Could you explain more why .jarjarbinks is a valid file extension? Thank you!

1 Answer:

Great question! At first glance, it doesn't seem like .jarjarbinks could be a valid file extension. However, the Unix system will allow you to create a file like file.jarjarbinks or file.anything or file.thisiscompletely wrong. While they are "valid" file extensions, meaning the Unix system accepts them, they are not helpful file extensions, they don't tell us anything about the contents of the file. Unix allows you to give your files completely unhelpful names, but we hope to start everyone off with good file naming habits in this class.
